An 80-year-old woman died while six persons were injured in a fire that hit the upper floors of an old condominium building in Parañaque City yesterday.
The victim was identified as Zenaida Uno and the injured as Henry Sablay, 44; Edgardo dela Cruz, 51; Ely Salabar, 31; Jeremiah Tee, 27; a certain “Cheng,” and a “Mr. A.”
The fire started at around 11:56 a.m. on the 21st floor of the Pacific Coast Plaza in Barangay Tambo. The fire which reached the general alarm spread to the 18th up to the 23rd floor.
The fire was declared under control by Bureau of Fire Protection Regional Director Rico Neil Kwan Tiu at 2:29 p.m.
Tiu said firefighters had difficulty containing the fire since it was on a high rise building.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire but they are looking at a garbage chute used by tenants to dispose their trash as a possible origin.
They are also investigating the sprinklers which reportedly did not work.
Uno’s body turned up during the search conducted by the BFP on the 21st floor. (Dhel Nazario)
