Cavs rookie says Kai could be next big thing

by Brian Yalung

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Collin Sexton believes seven-foot Kai Sotto has the tools to make it to the NBA.

“I feel like he can make it. He is 7-foot, he is a great player and he can shoot it. He is getting a lot better so when he comes back, you can all see,” said Sexton, who arrived in the country the other day for the Alaska-backed Jr. NBA Philippines 2019.

Sexton sees a lot of potential in the Batang Gilas standout and feels he can eventually be the first Filipino to make it to the NBA.

“I was just with him last Saturday. We just got up and down, we worked out together. That’s my guy,” said the 20-year-old Sexton.

Joining Sexton for the Jr. NBA event is WNBA Legend Ticha Penicheiro.

Sexton revealed that before coming to the country, he already had a chat with the new head coach in John Beilein and is looking forward to working with him when he gets back.

“Before coming over to the Philippines, I got the first time to talk to him before the lottery. I got to have a conversation with him and he is a great guy. I can’t wait for him to coach us and see what happens next year. We have some pretty high goals like making the playoffs so I can’t wait,” said Sexton.
