Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents arrested in Pampanga a Korean wanted by authorities in Seoul for swindling a compatriot of more than 200 million won (P8,878,698.70) for an alleged movie project.
BI intelligence officer Bobby Raquepo, chief of the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU), identified the captured Korean as 38-year-old Kim Woo, who was arrested on Thursday in Balibago, Angeles City.
The FSU operatives were armed with a mission order from BI Commissioner Jaime Morente who issued the same at the request of the Korean embassy in Manila.
Raquepo said Kim, who had hidden in the country for almost a year, is already an undocumented alien due to the cancellation of his passport by the Korean government.
He added that a Korean court had issued an arrest warrant against Kim who is also the subject of a red notice from Interpol.
It was learned that Kim is wanted for swindling his victim of nearly 129 million won (P5,725,895.32) from 2013 to 2015 which he borrowed by falsely claiming he needed the money to finish a film that he was directing.
He was also accused of defrauding the said victim last year of more than 107 million won (P4,749,386.04) by enticing the latter to invest in a corporate business.
Investigation revealed that Kim fled to Manila on Aug. 5 last year and has not left the country since then. (Jun Ramirez)
