President Duterte has conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kalasag on a soldier killed in the twin explosions in Sulu last week.
MalacaƱang said Duterte visited the wake of Corporal Richard Macabadbad at 11:20 p.m. Sunday at the Libingan ng mga Bayani mortuary in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Macabadbad, 33, was killed with two other soldiers in two explosions that rocked the Army 1st Brigade Combat Team camp in Barangay Kajatian in Indanan.
Three civilians were also killed, including the two suspected attackers, and 22 persons were wounded in the explosions.
The Islamic State was reported to have claimed responsibility for the incident.
Duterte posthumously conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kalasag on Macabadbad for his dedication to service.
The award is given to officials and personnel of the government and private individuals who lost their lives as a direct result of their participation in an activity pursuant to a campaign or advocacy of the President.
MalacaƱang had earlier condemned the incident and said that it will pursue all terrorist groups in the elements, particularly the Abu Sayyaf Group, which is suspected to be behind the explosions.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the explosions that occurred in a military base in Sulu, which killed and wounded scores of people,” presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said. (Argyll Geducos)
