Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano yesterday displayed his capability to lead the 18th Congress of the House of Representatives when he addressed the remaining thorn to his bid to become the next House Speaker.
Cayetano met presidential son and Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte in an undisclosed restaurant in Taguig City and was able to convince the neophyte solon to be the next House deputy speaker for political affairs, a newly created position.
Duterte, eldest son of President Duterte, was the remaining holdout to the proposed Cayetano speakership.
He was reported to have invited congressmen to join him in a political caucus hours before the scheduled election of the next leaders of the House.
The scheduled meeting conflicted with Cayetano’s hosting of a similar breakfast event. Both caucuses were set in separate conference rooms at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
“Thank you very much Cong. Paolo ‘Pulong’ Duterte for our talk on what the country needs and how we can put together a very responsive Congress,” Cayetano wrote in his Facebook account yesterday afternoon. “Thank you also for accepting the challenge for being the next deputy speaker for political affairs.”
Cayetano added: “Together we can all work towards a better Philippines.” (Ben Rosario)
