Police arrested one of the robbers who stabbed dead a 15-year-old boy and wounded his 58-year-old mother in their house in Barangay Longos, Malabon City, Sunday morning.
The suspect, Angelo James Dejados, 28, was arrested in a follow-up operation hours after attacking Christian Andrew Gonzales and his mother Elizabeth during the robbery.
Dejado’s unidentified cohort remains at large.
Investigation showed that the assailants broke into the victims’ house through a window on the second floor at about 4:30 a.m. on Suday.
The suspects carted away two iPhones, a Samsung Note 3 phone, a Samsung Galaxy A6 phone, and a Nokia phone.
As they were about to leave the house, Elizabeth, who was awakened by footsteps going down the stairs, went out of her room and saw the suspects, police said.
The suspects, armed with two kitchen knives, stabbed Elizabeth in different parts of the body. Christian, who was also roused by the commotion, was stabbed in the and body.
After the suspects fled, Elizabeth went out of her house and sought her neighbors’ help. The two were rushed to Ospital ng Malabon, but Christian was pronounced dead on arrival.
Elizabeth was later transferred to Chinese General Hospital where she is now confined.
Probers retrieved from the crime scene the two kitchen knives used by the suspects and a backpack.
Police said they will file charges of robbery with homicide and frustrated murder against the suspects.
