Creamline moved a victory away from sweeping the first round elims, out-steadying PacificTown Army in three tightly-fought sets, including two that went over the distance, 25-23, 28-26, 26-24, to pull away from the pack in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Wednesday at The Arena in San City.
Alyssa Valdez unloaded an 18-hit game, including 16 on attacks, and the rest played with so much grace and composure in each frame to thwart the Lady Troopers and extend their win run to seven in the nine-team field.
They shoot for the first round sweep against BaliPure on Saturday.
The loss dropped PacificTown Army to joint fifth with BaliPure at 2-3.
Motolite is in second at 4-1.
Earlier, unable to finish off the Choco Mucho in three or four, PetroGazz used its superb blocking in the decider to finally clip the Flying Titans as the Angels carved out a 25-22, 25-15, 19-25, 20-25, 15-3 victory to enhance their own bid.
The Angels posted 16 blocks, including six from Jeanette Panaga in clinching their second straight win for a 4-2 card.
Jonah Sabete took charge of PetroGazz’s offense by finishing with 14 kills for 15 points while Cherry Nunag chipped in 14 points highlighted by 11 spikes.
The Angels were in control in the first two sets but lost steam in the next two frames after Kat Tolentino and Maddie Madayag led the Flying Titans’ fightback.
But PetroGazz held its composure heading into the deciding fifth frame, dictating the tempo throughout to snare the win after two hours and eight minutes.
Choco Mucho absorbed its third straight defeat to slip at 2-4.
