PAMPLONA, Camarines Sur – Eight people died and 10 others were injured when a JRV passenger bus collided head on with a UV express van along the highway of Pamplona town in Camarines Sur, Wednesday night.
Police Captain Clarence Vincent Bacruya, chief of Pamplona Municipal Police Station (MPS), identified the victims as Armani Calpe, driver of the passenger van; Jopet Bernal, May Acdan, Mark Dave Doctor, Irene Abas, and Josephine Golgota.
Bacruya said two other victims were still unidentified as of press time.
He said that based on initial investigation, the bus driven by Leonardo Camu tried to overtake a tricycle while heading to Metro Manila.
” Nag-try siyang mag-overtake dun sa tricycle at nabangga pa niya ‘yung pwetan ng tricycle, kinuha ‘yung kabilang lane ng kalsada at saka nagkaroon ng head-on collision dun sa pampasaherong van na papuntang direksyon ng Naga, galing Daet,” Bacruya said.
Bacruya said eight of the victims died on the spot while the 10 others were brought to hospital for treatment of injuries.
“Fourteen ‘yung sakay ng van, kasama na ‘yung driver, walo ‘yung patay, anim doon ay injured; tatlo naman sa tricycle at isang minor injury sa isang pasahero ng bus,” Bacruya said.
The driver of the bus surrendered to the officers of Libmanan MPS few hours after the accident and was turned over to Pamplona MPS.
“Mahaharap siya sa kasong multiple homicide, pero korte pa rin ‘yung magdi-determine niyan,” Bacruya said. (Niño Luces)
