A Chinese national died after falling from a burning building in Malate, Manila, late Saturday afternoon.
Police identified the fatality as Wang Ser Siong, 64, occupant of a unit where the fire broke out.
Investigation showed that Wang tried to escape through the balcony of Unit 8E of the Legaspi Tower 300 on Roxas Boulevard after a blaze hit the building around 5:48 p.m.. He was the only person inside the unit when the incident happened, police said.
In a video circulating on Facebook, he was seen hanging from the ledge for about two minutes. And when the fire spread out, he apparently lost his hold and fell off.
Police said that the victim suffered severe injuries after a four-story fall.
The fire, which immediately reached 4th alarm around 6:09 p.m., was placed under control by 7:40 p.m. It was put out around 9:01 p.m, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.
