Part of the Skyway Stage 3 under construction in Pandacan, Manila collapsed due to a massive fire that hit a nearby plastic plant warehouse yesterday.
Based on reports it received from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, the Manila Public Information Office said the fire which engulfed San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp. on Tomas Claudia St. started before 10:38 a.m.
The fire reached Task Force Bravo at 11:05 a.m. and was put under control at 1:52 p.m.
The MPIO, quoting the MDRRMO, said that portion of the Skyway collapsed due to the fire.
“It’s a portion of Skyway Stage 3 parapet that was damaged. Stage 3 is still under construction and therefore, not operational. We are still assessing the extent of damage,” Skyway Corporate Communications head Marlene Ochoa said.
A railway some 400 meters away and a part of the Zamora Bridge were also feared affected, the Manila PIO added.
Philippine National Railway General Manager Junn Magno said that their trail control office coordinated with them for the partial operations of PNR trains.
“We allowed fire truck to access their right-of-way to mitigate and contain the fire,” he said.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, in a live variety show, assured the public not to worry as the Bureau of Fire Protection and the DRRMO are prepared for this. (Joseph Pedrajas)
