President Duterte visited his parents’ graves in Davao City a day before the start of the seven-day closure of cemeteries, memorial parks, and crematoriums nationwide.
In photos shared with the media by his long-time aide Senator Bong Go, President Duterte is seen wearing a face mask during his visit to the graves at the Roman Catholic Public Cemetery in Davao City.
He was likewise photographed looking at some old framed photos of his parents and their family.
According to Go, Duterte’s visit happened at around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The government has ordered the closure of cemeteries, memorial parks, and crematoriums nationwide from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4 to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In his public address aired on Tuesday, President Duterte reminded the public about the things they are not allowed to do during the Undas season.
He, however, wished everyone a peaceful and safe celebration of the All Saints’ and All Souls’ days.
“Naka-fix na ‘yan. No liquor, no deadly instruments lalo na ang baril unless you are a military or police. Sana – I expect a peaceful celebration of the All Saints’ Day and the All Souls’ Day,” he said.
“May you have a safe celebration of the All Saints’ Day and just follow rules. It’s for your own good,” he added. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
