Pinakamaalat na dagat

By KIM ATIENZA

Ancient Egyptians adored beetles and looked at them as lucky creatures. They believed in their ability to harness the power of the sun.

In the Philippines, certain insects feed the stomach.

Locally, the most popular insect being consumed by humans is the cricket, known locally, in Pampanga at least, as camaro. It is usually cooked adobo-style.

Crickets come from the same family as cicada and locusts.

Insects need little water and leave smaller carbon emission footprints, compared to poultry, pork and beef, according to environmentalists.

What about spiders?

Science Kids says most spiders make silk which they use to create spider webs and capture prey.

Abandoned spider webs are called cobwebs.

Tarantulas are large and often hairy spiders. The biggest species have been known to kill mice, lizards and birds.

Most tarantula species pose no threat to humans.

ATING ALAMIN: Alin po ang pinakamaalat na dagat sa mundo?

The saltiest body of water in the world is the Dead Sea.

It is actually an enormous lake in a very hot region of the Middle East.

No rivers flow into the Dead Sea, making it very salty, indeed.  Its waters also evaporate a lot.

The beauty of swimming in the Dead Sea is that you can float on top effortlessly, without trying.
