Maybe I’m just old school but I really prefer the way we used to greet each other for the New Year: MANIGONG BAGONG TAON! Of course, the traditional English greeting of “Happy New Year” is fine but our Filipino greeting is just full of hope.

Metro Manila is congested. Its major arteries are blocked and it is causing high blood pressure to motorists and residents. But a bypass will not save the metropolis, it requires a new heart. In fact, we do not need multiple bypass, we need new hearts.

A Day for Heroes

When I was young, I always wondered what National Heroes’ Day was for. Was it for all the national heroes who were not given their special day? It turned out to be true as only Jose Rizal (the date of his death, December 30) and Andres Bonifacio (the day of his birth, November 30) have specific holidays dedicated to their heroism.

In the middle of all the political noises we have been hearing recently, two pieces of good news went largely (and sadly) unnoticed. The first is the 7.1% growth in our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the 3rd quarter of 2016. The second is the recent announcement of President Rodrigo Duterte that he has approved a new batch of infrastructure projects worth P270 billion.
