The recent tragedy on the death of 32 and the injuries suffered by 45 other individuals aboard the Leomarick bus at Carranglan, Nueva Ecija is a crystal clear proof that our transportation authorities have never learned enough lessons from previous tragedies including the accident in Tanay, Rizal that happened last February and claimed the life of 15 individuals—all but one were students of Bestlink College of the Philippines-Quezon City.

In his recent official trip to countries in the Middle East, President Rodrigo Duterte announced before the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) the creation of “Department of OFWs” – a national government agency that will be responsible for the design, production and delivery of services to Filipinos working abroad. Such services obviously include interventions on OFW problems like illegal recruitment, employer maltreatment, and criminal case convictions.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte believes that said law “produced about five to six generations” of criminals and he also noted that young people who “committed crimes are released on the same day irrespective of the gravity of the offense.” He further asserted that said law “produced people of criminal minds” and linked such to the difficulty of the government in stopping the drug problem in the country.
