President Duterte on Saturday cited members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for their efforts in securing the country from threats.

Duterte, in a speech before the Army 401st Infantry Brigade, admired the troops and showered them with praises. “I would like to commend the men and women of the Eastern Command for a wonderful performance. You were able to dismantle one, two, maganda ang pinakita ninyo sa bayan and I give you my salute,” he said.

According to Duterte, it has been a year since he last visited the 401st IB in Camp Bancasi and he is happy to see how well they have been performing their duties. “I have proudly witnessed the hard work, dedication, and bravery of the men and women of the 401st Brigade in maintaining law and order in your operations,” he said.

The President cited the success the AFP accomplished with their help, particularly in addressing the threats of insurgency and illegal drugs.

“Through your valiant and relentless efforts, you have neutralized, apprehended, and facilitated the surrenders of the regulars, Militia ng Bayan members, Sangay ng Partido Lokal members, and more than 500 underground mass organization members. This led to the recovery of hundreds of firearms and explosives and the discovery of enemy encampments,” he said.

“Your steadfast support in the campaign against illegal drugs has not only resulted in the confiscation of shabu worth over P11 million, but also led to the neutralization of drug personalities, securing the provinces of Agusan del Sur and Surigao del, Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur,” he added.

“Your cooperation with concerned government agencies, especially in the implementation of martial law in Mindanao, has not only made our kababayans safer in these challenging times, but also paved the way for the collective advancement of our communities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Duterte on Saturday conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kampilan on a wounded police officer in Butuan.

Duterte visited PO1 Retchell Golandrina at the Philippine National Police-Police Regional Office 13 Hospital in Camp Rafael C. Rodriguez after his speech before the 401st IB.

Golandrina was wounded when their camp in Barangay San Mateo, Butuan was “harassed” by members of the New People’s Army on Sept. 18.
Duterte personally checked Golandrina’s condition and assured him of full recovery under the government’s care. “Basta tandaan mo, while I am President, hindi kita pababayaan,” he promised.

Malacañang said Golandrina was given financial aid, a smart phone, and a gun certificate.

The Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kampilan is conferred by the President to recognize exemplary service by workers of the government and private individuals who are wounded, injured, or suffered great loss of property for their participation in the advocacy of the President.
