IT has long been hoped that the Mamasapano incident of January 15, 2015, be laid to rest after so many years of official investigations by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation and inquiries in aid of legislation by the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has ordered yesterday the filing of criminal charges against former President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy’’ C. Aquino III for his liability arising from the murder of the 44 PNP-SAF policemen by Muslim rebels.

It has been 21 months since the Mamasapano disaster of January, 2015. There have been countless hearings in Congress, charges have been filed against the alleged killers of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos of the Philippine National Police, some of whom have been honored with medals and other decorations. But the fact is that many of the families of the SAF 44 and many in the nation feel to this day that there is yet no closure to that unfortunate incident.
