The ASEAN Way in this year of PH chairmanship

THE Philippines, as chairman for 2017 of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will launch ASEAN 2017 at the Davao SMX Convention Center today with the theme “We Are Partners for Change, Engaging the World.”

The Philippine government is looking forward to “more fruitful achievements” in forging closer regional cooperation towards peace, security, and growth in this year’s Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit.

INDONESIA’S Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu has called for intensified joint patrolling in the waters that link Indonesia with the Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei, all fellow members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The Malacca Strait and the waters linking the four countries must not become like the Somalia waters where piracy is rampant, he said.
