The holidays that distinguish us as a nation

AMID so many changes and so many crucial events taking place in our country today, it is good to be reminded of significant parts of our national life and culture that help to bind our people closer together. These include the national holidays that we celebrate, each in its own time during the year. They were listed in Presidential Proclamation 269 signed by President Duterte last July 17.

The public can now prepare for their vacations this early after the government released the official list of regular and special non-working days in the country in 2018.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) reminded employers yesterday to give the 13th month pay to their workers before Christmas Day. Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz said private companies should pay their workers’ 13th month pay on or before December 24 as mandated by law.
