Gatchalian: Senate has right to probe Bautista

Sen. Sherwin T. Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate Economic Affairs Committee, said yesterday the Senate has the constitutional right to look into the evidence of corrupt practices aired against Commission on Election Chairman Andres Bautista because the reputation of the Philippines as a staunch democratic country is at stake.

The Senate electoral reform and people’s participation in the 16th Congress refused yesterday to undertake a probe on allegations that Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong’’ R. Marcos Jr. was cheated by as much as 300,000 votes and thus lost to Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo in the vice presidential race.
