Aguirre: SC can oust Chief Justice

Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II said yesterday that the Supreme Court can oust Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes P. A. Sereno from her post by nullifying her 2012 appointment in a quo warranto case.

Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II said yesterday the criminal charge against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P. A. Sereno for alleged non-filing of her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth for 17 years will be investigated.

A fact-finding probe is now being conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation Death Investigation Division on the existence and the supposed involvement of presidential aspirant Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte in the Davao Death Squad.
Acting Department of Justice Secretary Emmanuel Caparas said that NBI is now on its investigation stage on the alleged unexplained killings initiated by the DDS.
In June 2015, then DoJ Secretary now senatorial candidate Leila M. de Lima revealed plans to investigate Duterte as allegations of his involvement with the DDS and the killings were serious and disturbing.
