Agri chief stamps out graft-prone subsidies

The Department of Agriculture (DA) will start implementing next year a “major policy shift” in its service to Filipino farmers and fisher folks, adopting an easy access soft-loan system in lieu of graft-prone subsidies observed for years.

It was a problem of prices, not supply

The National Food Authority (NFA) is the government agency whose job is to ensure an adequate supply of inexpensive rice for the masses. It gets its supply from Thailand and Vietnam, whose farmers can produce rice at much lower costs than Filipino farmers.
