Solons reject lifting of OFW ban to Kuwait

Notwithstanding Kuwait’s efforts in arresting the two principal suspects in the killing of overseas Filipino worker Joanna Demafelis, the ban on the deployment of workers to the Middle East country must not be lifted until its leaders agree to sign a bilateral agreement with the Philippines, congressmen said yesterday.

A Kuwaiti nabbed by law enforcers for possible links to the dreaded terror group Islamic State could be the same person who headed a cartel of medical clinics that had allegedly milked thousands of overseas Filipino workers applying for jobs in Kuwait.

A party-list congressman yesterday called for stronger measures to protect Filipino domestic workers in Saudi Arabia after confirming the death of overseas Filipino worker Irma Avila Edloy, a rape victim who was brought for treatment at the King Salman Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
