GMA moves to protect Veterans from sale

Former President now House Deputy Speaker Gloria M. Arroyo has moved to protect the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City from being sold, saying that government should instead modernize its facilities to better serve the medical needs of Filipino veterans, retired soldiers, and their dependents.

President Duterte has appointed Philippine Army commanding general Lt. Gen. Eduardo M. Año as the new Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff.

At the start of the Supreme Court’s hearing of oral arguments on the issue of whether to allow the burial of the remains of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Justice Teresita Leonardo de Castro remarked: “I think it is the name that creates controversy.” She was referring to the name of the cemetery “Libingan ng mga Bayani.”
