Improving traffic in Metro Manila

THERE has been a slight but distinct improvement in the traffic along Epifanio de los Santos Ave. (EDSA) in recent days, possibly due to the campaign to get “colorum” buses off the road. There is also the government decision to phase out the old jeepneys and replace them with newer ones with more economical engines.

Senate President Koko Pimentel wants Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stocks Co. blacklisted from all government contracts for delivering trains incompatible with the Metro Rail Transit 3.

MOTORISTS and commuters travelling along Epifanio de los Santos Ave. (EDSA) and other traditionally grid-locked roads in Metro Manila noted in the last few days some improvement in the traffic and it soon became apparent that it was because the government had started a campaign against unroadworthy vehicles.

The year-end report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines and the Truck Manufacturers Association said 425,673 units were sold in 2017. This was 18.4 percent higher than the number of vehicles sold in 2016.

MMDA tests HOV lane
