Another tragic story of an Overseas Filipino Worker

The execution of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Kuwait last Wednesday was a harsh reminder to us that there are today at least 88 Filipinos now confined in death rows in countries all over the world. They are among some 7.000 serving time in prison for various crimes in the host countries where they had sought and found work.

Jakatia Pawa, an Overseas Filipino Worker who was sentenced to death for killing her employer’s daughter in 2007, was executed by hanging yesterday afternoon despite various efforts to save her life.

The Philippine Consulate in Dubai, United Arab Emirates confirmed that it will file an appeal on behalf of a 25-year-old Overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was sentenced early this month to one year imprisonment for having an illicit relationship with another OFW, a Filipino migrant rights watchdog reported.
