Jinggoy wants PEACE bonds probed

Senate President Pro Tempore Jose “Jinggoy“ Estrada has filed a resolution asking the Senate to reopen the investigation into the P35-billion so-called Peace Eradication and Alleviation Certificates (PEACE) bonds controversy.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) will have to raise some P175 billion for the remaining two months of the year to hit its P940-billion collection target, a job considered by insiders as “mission impossible.”

The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability will launch another leg of its investigation on the controversial P10-billion Poverty Eradication and Alleviation Certificate (PEACe) bonds with Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon “Dinky” J. Soliman participating as among the key resource persons in the congressional hearing.
