Welcome report in a season of goodwill

IT was hardly noticed because of so many news stories that vied for the people’s attention. But in so many ways, President Duterte’s personally sending off the crew of a detained Vietnamese fishing vessel a week ago was the kind of story that inspires hope and goodwill, at a time when nearly every other story is so discouraging.

Seven Indonesian sailors have been taken hostage in the Sulu Sea in the southern Philippines, Indonesia’s foreign minister said yesterday, the latest in a string of abductions in the waters between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.
