Jeepney drivers, operators make a final appeal

JEEPNEY drivers and operators of Central Luzon appealed to the Duterte administration last week for a selective phase-out – instead of a total phase-out – of Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) in January next year as ordered by the Department of Transportation (DoTr).

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) explained that the decision to classify motorcycles as legal public utility vehicles is under the jurisdiction of Congress.

Reports have reached the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) that there are some public utility vehicles (PUVs), particularly UV Express, that discriminate against its passengers by only allowing those who are slim to get on board.
