Con-Ass voting issue remains undecided

The Supreme Court (SC) in its hearing last Tuesday voted unanimously to reject a petition filed last month asking it to decide whether the Senate and the House of Representatives should vote jointly or separately if it convenes as a Constituent Assembly.

The Court of Appeals has allowed the Quezon City Regional Trial Court to hear and resolve the P5.4-million damage suit filed by the protestant United Church of Christ in the Philippines against former President now Pampanga Rep. Gloria M. Arroyo in connection with the alleged extrajudicial killings of five of members and the abduction of a priest from 2003 to 2006.

The Court of Appeals (CA) has ordered the revival of the kidnapping with ransom case against former Indanan, Sulu Mayor Alvarez Isnaji and his son, Haider, in connection with the abduction of an ABS-CBN News team in 2008, and ordered the setting aside of a trial court order last year that acquitted them.
