Reviewing the conduct of the 2016 elections

AMONG the provisions of RA 9369, the Election Automation Law of 2006, is one calling for a Joint Congressional Oversight Committee (JCOC) to conduct a mandatory review of the performance of the Automatic Election System (AES) 12 months after the last election. The oversight committee is to submit its report and recommendations to the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The Manila City Prosecutor’s Office has agreed to reschedule the preliminary investigation on the cybercrime complaint filed by defeated vice presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. against Smartmatic and the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

It’s unfortunate that the unofficial quick count of votes for vice president in the recent elections has been marred to the point that charges of poll sabotage have been filed against the Commission on Elections and officials of Smartmatic and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV).

MEDIA’s invention of “presumptive president” as applied to you-know-who – no wonder he insists on being addressed as Mayor – had the Political Innocent in Residence exclaiming that presumptively, Digong’s win will spell presumptive victory for Donald Trump in that parallel universe of our May elections and America’s November polls. (Once upon a time our elections were also held in November, but that’s water under the overpass.)

HERE comes Sen. Koko Pimentel, who’s only the head of incoming President Duterte’s political party, threatening to “put behind bars” the Venezuelan general manager and project manager of Smartmatic, “for all the abuses and underdeliveries (that) should be factored in by Comelec” that tainted the integrity of the vote count.
