8.1 quake hits Mexico

An earthquake of magnitude 8.1 struck off the southern coast of Mexico late on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, killing at least six people and triggering small tsunami waves but no major destruction.

A magnitude-5.4 earthquake shook Leyte yesterday morning, the strongest aftershock of the magnitude-6.5 tremor last week that damaged a power plant and other buildings.
