MANILA, Philippines (Tempo) – The Aquino administration has begun placing “safety nets” on the local oil industry that seeks to protect consumers from the effects of volatile oil prices, a Department of Energy (DoE) official revealed yesterday.
DoE Oil Industry Management Bureau Director Zenaida Monsada said the measures that have been ordered by President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III are meant to benefit not only the transport sector—Monday’s much publicized demonstrators—but ordinary folk as well.
Among these measures, Monsada said, involves a directive from the President to study the technical and financial aspect of using alternative fuels. (Ellson A. Quismorio)
