Manila, Philippines -Former Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) chief weather forecaster Prisco Nilo has been gone in the bureau for almost a year but President Benigno S. Aquino III still cannot stop thinking about him.
The President continued to criticize the former head of PAGASA for his wrong forecast of the path of typhoon “Basyang” in July 2010 in contrast to the prompt and accurate weather prediction of the new management today.
Aquino, in a leadership forum attended by government and business officials from Asia last Thursday, shared the text message he received about the improved weather forecasting of PAGASA since the removal of Nilo.
“And the text was kinda funny in the sense that previously, if the weather bureau said that it would rain, we can count on it being sunny. And today, the text basically said, when the last typhoon hit us yesterday, that finally it saved a lot of lives. It made people able to protect themselves. PAGASA was right on the ball. And it said, finally we can count on PAGASA really giving us hope,” Aquino said. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
