Manila, Philippines – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) reported yesterday a collection of P686.2 billion during the first nine months of the year, P78.9 billion higher compared to the collection for the same period last year.
BIR Commissioner Kim S. Jacinto-Henares said taxes generated continued to rise as shown in last month’s collections. Henares said that for September alone, more than P66.5 billion was raised, P521 milion higher than the collection for the same period last year.
However, the take from January to September was short by about P7.8 billion compared to the target of P694 billion. “Our shortfall is slight at only 1.14 percent of the total collection, but nevertheless it is a shortfall,” Henares said.
She added, “We will have to work even harder in the last three months of the year in order to meet our target of R940 billion and I expect nothing less from the men and women of the bureau.” (Jun Ramirez)
