Soldier hurt in Agusan clash

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – An Army soldier was wounded while undetermined number of New People’s Army (NPA) fighters were believed either killed or wounded during an encounter Friday in New Tubigon mountainous area, Sibagat town, Agusan del Sur, police reported yesterday.

Initial report received by Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) at Camp Rafael C. Rodriguez here from Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Office (PPO) and Sibagat Municipal Police Station (MPS) stated that pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels were still going on in the towns forested area.

Supt. Martin M. Gamba, PRO 13 spokesperson, identified the wounded soldier as Cpl. Matias Auxtero, Jr. of Army’s 26th Infantry Battallion (26th IB). He is now recuperating from bullet wounds in a hospital in the province. (Mike U. Crismundo)
