Manila, Philippines – Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives have arrested a German fugitive wanted for drug trafficking in his country. BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said Friday 48-year-old Stephanus Maria Schoellhorn is now detained at the Bicutan immigration jail following his arrest by members of the bureau’s fugitive search unit in Puerto Galera, Mindoro last Oct 19.
David issued a mission order for Schoellhorn’s arrest at the request of the German embassy in Manila. The embassy cancelled Schoellhorn’s passport after being informed by the German federal police about the fugitive’s presence in the Philippines. According to David, the German has been the subject of an arrest warrant issued by a municipal court in Baden-Baden, Germany where he was charged with seven counts of drug trafficking. He added that the BI board of commissioners would issue order for Schoellhorn’s deportation within the next few days. (Jun Ramirez)
