KakaoTalk, Korea’s largest mobile messaging service and mobile social platform, announced its entry to the Philippines today. Filipino users will now be able to experience KakaoTalk’s fun and refreshing features that cater to meet the needs of local users, while being provided with content that is both entertaining and beneficial.
Created by Korean mobile messaging and social platform company, Kakao Corporation, KakaoTalk is a free instant messaging application that provides not just free 1:1 and group text messaging, but also free voice calls supporting 1:1 or groups with as many as five participants, in addition to many other features. While it began as a mobile messaging service, the application has slowly evolved into a multi-facet platform that offers a wide range of content and services including business marketing, commerce, games, digital content, and fashion in Korea.
Building on the success in Korea, Kakao Corp has recently began to aggressively pursue global expansion by driving business operations and marketing activities in regions of high potential such as Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and now, the Philippines. Through these various efforts, the company hopes to offer users worldwide a fun and enjoyable method of communication, while fostering a healthy mobile ecosystem in more regions around the world, where various stakeholders including business partners, developers, and users, can flourish together.
In the Phillippines, Kakao Corp will first focus on helping familiarize Filipino users with KakaoTalk, while continuously listening to feedback in order to provide timely localized features that accommodate the needs of the market.
“A recent study done by comScore revealed that the Internet audience in the Philippines is the fastest-growing in Southeast Asia, growing by 22% since March 2012,” says Tim Jang, director of Kakao Philippines. “We are confident that we will be able to provide the right product at the right time to satisfy the needs of the local consumers. The country has been especially robust in the past years and we are confident that KakaoTalk will do well in such a promising environment.”
