CaféFrance seeks a bounce back victory against Arellano University on Monday after blowing a golden opportunity to make the playoffs last Thursday.
Their chance to make the next round is not exactly encouraging though, but CaféFrance coach Egay Macaraya remains hopeful.
The Bakers were seconds away from advancing to the quarterfinals of the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup last Thursday but they couldn’t hold on to it, eventually losing to Blackwater Sports, 83-87, in overtime.
CaféFrance and Blackwater Sports are tied for the sixth and last quarterfinal spot with 7-5 (win-loss) records. The Elite hold the advantage over the Bakers should the two teams wind up tied at the close of the elimination round.
CaféFrance is favored to get past the free-falling Arellano U Chiefs (1-11) in their scheduled 10 a.m. encounter at the JCSGO gym in Cubao, Quezon City and would advance to the quarterfinals only if Blackwater Sports loses to Cebuana Lhuillier (5-7) to end its elimination round campaign on Tuesday.
A three-way tie for the 5th and 6th quarterfinal berths is also a possibility should Cagayan Valley (8-4) drops its last game against NLEX on Tuesday. But even that situation is not favorable for Café France because the Bakers also lost to the Rising Suns, 74-83, on Oct. 24, 2013.
“Everything is possible and I believe in miracle. But we have to do our job first (win against Arellano University). I just hope my boys could recover sooner after that sorry lost last Thursday,” Macaraya said.
