Manila, Philippines – Want to know if Kia Motors will be as fast and furious as playing coach Manny Pacquiao? Or if Blackwater and NLEX can match up with the league heavyweights?
These questions could be answered in the event the brainchild of PBA chairman Ramon Segismundo comes into fruition as he will discuss with the board the idea of staging a pocket tournament sometime in early-September while the league is on an extended break.
Segismundo will get the chance to present his proposal when the board convenes today for its monthly meeting at the PBA headquarters in Libis, Quezon City.
The current Governors’ Cup will conclude in early-July and Segismundo said the holding of the pocket tourney will be a chance for the new teams as well as the old-timers to gauge the level of opposition.
“I will raise what projects we can do after the third conference since we’ll have a long break. We’d like to make the break as exciting and productive as we can, like having a pocket tournament,” said Segismundo yesterday.
Still, Segismundo said everything remains up in the air.
“We’ve not discussed the details yet (informal meetings), but this is something we can talk about at the board. It may include the three teams, but that will depend if they are ready to play with a competitive lineup. As much as possible, it’s better if they already have a team.”
