Paul Lee to play in China?
A source said yesterday that a team from the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) has offered the 6-foot-1 guard to play, and that Lee may bring his talent there in the event he decides not to sign with Rain or Shine.
“I think he has an offer to play in China, and Paul might try his luck there if he decides not to play for Rain or Shine next season,” said a source yesterday as he requested not to be named.
Should the camp of Lee accept an offer to play in China or in other counties, his rights are still with the Painters when he returns to the PBA, unless a trade happens with another PBA ballclub.
Lee’s three-year contract with Rain or Shine will expire on Sunday (Aug. 31), and last Friday – through his agent Lawrence Chongson – he expressed his “desire” to be traded to another team.
The Bulletin tried to contact Chongson, Lee’s former coach at the University of the East, but he was not available for comment.
Rain or Shine Coach Yeng Guiao remains hopeful of keeping the services of Lee, although if the latter pushes through with his request to be shipped to another PBA team, he said they are open to it.
However, obtaining the services of 6-foot-1 Lee won’t be easy.
