Despite trailing, 3-2, in the Philippine Cup semifinals, Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao remains confident that they can still get the job done and advance into the finals against idle San Miguel Beer.
“We will make adjustments for Game 6, and I’m confident we can bring it to a Game 7,” said Guiao.
The Elasto Painters blew a 19-point lead in Game 5 and Guiao was quick to blame it on their tendency to relax after taking a big lead.
“It’s very similar to Game 1. We had a good lead, we had the momentum but again it’s a game of runs,” said Guiao.
“The first half, we still had a good six-point lead and to me, that was still okay because I expect runs from both sides. But in the second half, again it’s a question of sustaining the energy because we got outrebounded and we couldn’t sustain the pace,” he said.
Guiao said the long break will give them a chance to breaks to recover after playing five games in eight days.
The Painters, who were given a three-day break by Guiao, will resume practice on Friday to prepare for Game 6 on Sunday at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.
“It’s just enough na nakapahinga ka, and that you don’t lose your sharpness and you still get to celebrate the New Year and allow them some time with their family din,” said Guiao.
