PBA President and CEO Chito Salud yesterday fined Rain or Shine players Beau Belga and Raymond Almazan a total of R110,000 for their unsportsmanlike conducts during a game against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup last Sunday.
Belga, the 6-6 bruiser, received the largest penalty of P70,000, including a P40,000 fine taunting, provoking and scoffing at the fans with the use of a dirty finger and other offensive verbal and physical gestures, said in a statement released by the PBA.
Almazan, the 6-foot-7 second-year center of the Elasto Painters, also received a similar P40,000 penalty for the same offense in a game won by ROS, 82-79, at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Belga was also fined P10,000 each on three different instances of the game, which the Commissioner’s Office believed as “breach of conduct” after Salud reviewed the game tape last Monday.
The league found Belga of deliberately planting his forearm on Ginebra’s Mark Caguioa as they were falling after a rebound in the 5:26 mark of the fourth quarter, for intentionally landing on Eman Monfort with his knees after a foul he committed on Monfort with 3:40 to play. (WG)
