Globalport mentor Pido Jarencio wasn’t able to travel with the team which left for Dubai yesterday for the PBA Governors’ Cup pair of games at the Al Shabab Al Arabi Club in the United Arab Emirates.
Jarencio was at the airport but medical personnel had to assist him after experiencing stomach pains due to diarrhea. The problem has bothered the Batang Pier coach since Sunday when Globalport played San Miguel Beer.
“Hindi talaga kaya ni coach Pido, since Sunday pa siya nag-LBM e. Naka-IV na siya. We’ll see if he’ll be allowed to travel tomorrow (Tuesday),” said PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial.
Globalport left with the entire Rain or Shine team with coach Yeng Guiao at 12:45 p.m. on board Philippine Airlines.
On the other hand, popular team Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the rest of the PBA delegation – led by league Commissioner Chito Salud – are scheduled to fly at 6 p.m. on board Emirates.
The Elasto Painters play back-to-back games as they face the Batang Pier on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. (12:30 a.m. Manila Time) and the Kings on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (11:30 p.m. Manila time).
Rain or Shine will try to end a two-game skid in Dubai after dropping its first two assignments, losing to San Miguel Beer (104-91) last May 12 and to Alaska (94-93) last Friday.
Barangay Ginebra sports a 1-3 record after losing its previous game against expansion team Blackwater (83-77) last Saturday in the Petron Saturday Special in Dipolog City.
As for Globalport, the team was dealt its first defeat this conference after a franchise-best 3-0 start following a 124-102 setback to Philippine Cup champion SMB last Sunday.
