Barako Bull tries to tighten its grip on the top spot even as Star and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel renew their rivalry today in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Enjoying their best start in years, the Energy Cola seek their sixth win in seven outings when they battle the Globalport Batang Pier at 3 p.m. before attention shifts to the Hotshots-Kings showdown at 5:15 p.m.
The Big Dome is expected to be filled to the rafters as Star and Ginebra need a win to boost their respective playoff bids.
At presstime, Star is tied for ninth place with Rain or Shine at 2-4 while Ginebra is in eighth position with a 3-4 record.
Both teams are coming off victories in their last matches, with Star defeating Kia, 89-80, last May 30 in Angeles City, Pampanga, and Ginebra surviving Globalport, 111-108, in overtime four days ago at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Barako Bull, however, hopes to give the audience a treat.
Barako Bull Coach Koy Banal has called on his team to improve each game and prove to the rest of the field that the Energy Cola are no longer pushovers.
“We just have to focus on the game, take it one game at a time,” said Banal.
Globalport slipped to a tie for fourth place with Meralco at 4-3 following its heartbreaking loss to Ginebra.
