The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is set to launch the first-ever PBA Dickies Women’s 3×3 Challenge on Friday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Twelve teams featuring the best players from various women’s collegiate leagues are competing in the tournament – the first of its kind in Asia’s first play for pay league since its inception in 1975.
“One of the most neglected sector in sports is women’s basketball. We in the PBA believe the sport has a bright future. So we are giving it a push, develop it and inspire other lady ballers,” said PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa.
“I think our involvement in women’s basketball is very timely considering the success of the Perlas basketball team in the recent FIBA Asia championship. For the first time our national women’s team has made it to the elite Division 1 of FIBA Asia.”
Narvasa said the PBA is committed to help women’s basketball that it is also looking to work on a similar project in the PBA D-League.
