When Brandon Vera comes back in the Philippines to dispute the inaugural ONE Championship Heavyweight title this December, he’s not only fighting for his career – he wants to carry the whole Philippines behind him.
The Truth gets back into action on Dec. 11 when he takes on the unbeaten Chi Lewis Parry in ONE: Spirit of Champion at the Mall of Asia Arena. With a 13-7 record, it will be a tough grind for the Filipino-American as he’ll be facing a huge size disadvantage against the British.
Standing at 6’9, Parry has been dominant, finishing all of his six fights due to his impressive striking and power.
But Vera doesn’t seem to mind that as he’s highly motivated to win it all for the Filipino crowd who’s expected to back him up along the way all throughout the match.
“When I’m here, it’s not about winning or losing. I’m fighting here to uplift everybody and make them happy,” said Vera who even mentioned that he’s gonna leave the belt here after he wins it.
“I don’t want it to be over fast. I wanna be in the fourth or fifth round and hurt him. I want to make him feel hurt,” he added.
He also admitted that there is pressure for him every time he’s fighting here, but that doesn’t negate the advantages that he has here, every time he fights in front of the home crowd.
