A 79-year-old man died after he was allegedly clubbed in the face with a water pipe by an ice delivery helper yesterday in Makati City.
The Southern Police District Station 2 identified the victim as Alfredo Peña, with no permanent address. Case officer SPO2 Jason David disclosed that Peña was roused from sleep by the suspect, 30-year-old Moises Ranchez, of Renzmac Ice in Barangay Poblacion, and his companions nat around 3:30 a.m. on Villena corner Gabaldon St., just in front of Renzmac Ice.
Peña promptly called the attention of Ranchez and co-workers and asked them to shut up. However, the suspect ignored the victim and continued talking on top of his voice with his co-workers. Peña took a samurai and challenged Ranchez to a fight.
Ranchez kept his cool but became irked due to Pena’s repetitive call for a brawl. The suspect grabbed a water pipe and clubbed the face of Peña once, dropped his weapon, but instead of escaping, he immediately yielded to the patrolling barangay watchmen. (Rachel Joyce E. Burce)
