BUTUAN CITY – New People’s Army (NPA) rebels returned on Tuesday afternoon the P25,000 cash money they recovered from an Agusan del Sur town mayor whom they killed along with his son.
The NPA represented by Rubi del Mundo of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) – Southern Mindanao Region turned over to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte the money of the slain Loreto Mayor Dario E. Otaza and son Daryl, who were brutally killed by the rebels at an outskirt barangay in Butuan City last month.
It was learned that the Davao City mayor will turn over the said money anytime to Ligaya, wife of the late Mayor Otaza, or to any immediate kin.
The members of the Otaza family did not give any comment on the development. However, a top military commander in Agusan said returning the stolen money from the victim is “adding more insult to their brutal act of killing”.
