Bradwyn Guinto is proving that Mahindra made the right choice by selecting him in the last PBA Rookie Draft.
A product of San Sebastian College, the 6-foot-6 Guinto has emerged as the leading contender in the Rookie of the Year race, ahead of top two picks Moala Tautuaa and Troy Rosario of Talk ’N Text.
Selected by the Enforcer with the 14th overall pick (second round), Guinto accumulated 25.9 Statistical Points (SP) as he averaged 10.5 points and 11.3 rebounds, as well as 1.3 assists and 1.3 shot blocks.
Guinto and his team, however, suffered their fourth loss in five games following an 85-93 defeat to Barako Bull in the Smart Bro PBA Philippine Cup last Tuesday at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.
The 6-foot-7 Tautuaa, on the other hand, is second with 24.4 SP as he averaged 10 points, 5.8 rebounds, two assists and 1.3 steals, while his TNT partner Rosario, who was originally picked by Mahindra No. 2 overall, is at fourth place with 20.0 SP on 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds.
Rain or Shine rookie guard Maverick Ahinmisi is at third with 21.0 SP, averaging 8.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, showing poise in the guard-heavy rotation of coach Yeng Guiao.
Completing the Top 10 are NLEX’s Simon Enciso (18.5), Meralco’s Chris Newsome (16.3), Keith Agovida of Blackwater (15.0), Scottie Thompson of Ginebra San Miguel (13.5), Don Trollano of ROS (12.3) and Star’s Norbert Torres (11.80).
