CafeFrance was not in any mood for warm welcomes and hospitality.
The Bakers quickly showed the Mindanao Aguilas what’s in store for them as they demolished the debuting team 89-65 to open its campaign in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup yesterday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Rod Ebondo, the Foundation Cup finals hero, came through once again for coach Egay Macaraya as he scored 12 of his 16 points in the second quarter as they pulled away from the Aguilas for good.
This included nine straight points to allow the Bakers to re-control the game as they took a 32-19 lead, a lead they continued to pad on up until the final buzzer.
Despite the win, Egay Macaraya wasn’t too pleased with how they performed, especially after turning the ball over many times to start the game.
“Isipin mo sa first quarter pa lang, we had 13 turnovers na,” he said. “Sa tingin ko, it’s more on gustong maging agresibo ng lahat pero naging out of control. Hopefully, maka-adjust kami since first game pa lang naman.”
Ebondo added 17 boards and two blocks to his name while Joseph Manlangit, another product of Centro Escolar University, added 13 points.
